Knicks acquire Thomas, Harrington, Mobley
The reshaping New York Knicks depart with Zach Randolph, Jamal Crawford and Mardy Collins today. Crawford goes to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for versatile big man Al Harrington. Meanwhile, Randolph and Collins are now with the Los Angeles Clippers who released Cuttino Mobley and forward Tim Thomas.
Not really an interesting trade to me. It's not one of those wtf trades.hehehe Clearly the Knicks get the best of this deal. Despite losing Jamal and Zach, they've acquired reliable veterans who are more of role players which I think what Mike D'Antoni favors. Moreover, this makes their salary cap in better shape especially come 2010. It's no secret that New York is eager to get Lebron James as his contract expires by 2010.
I wonder what Don Nelson, headcoach of the Warriors is up to. With the departure of Al Harrington, he only has Brandon Wright and Rony Turiaf to rely on at the power forward position. The two are more of off-the-bench type of players at least this season. Getting Jamal Crawford who demands and I would say deserves playing time would certainly tighten their guard rotation especially when Monta Ellis gets back from suspension. At my count, I think they have 8 guards(PG/SG).
On the next trade update, I hope having Cleveland mentioned. *wink

Pistons land Iverson for Billups, McDyess, Samb
It was a relatively quiet off-season for most of the big teams in the NBA. But, just a week after the season opened, the Pistons and Nuggets agree to make some noise. Detroit traded three players in Chauncey Billups, Antonio Mcdyess, and Cheikh Samb for all-star Allen Iverson of Denver.
AI's contract is expiring, and I heard in the news just 2 weeks ago that he wouldn't want to be traded anymore. He'd rather sacrifice cutting his salary just to stay in Denver. In three games with the Nuggets this season, Allen is averaging 18.7 points and 6.7 assists. The departure of AI will certainly give JR Smith more playing time. He'll (JR) be the primary shooting guard of the Denver. Billups will be bringing his point guard smarts to a team that has no reliable point guard. Before the trade, Denver relies on Chucky Atkins, Anthony Carter and AI to man the point. As pointed out in the article from nba.com, Mcdyess doesn't want to be in Denver and he might just opt to retire or go for a contract buyout. If this happens, Denver must search for a reliable forward to help out Kenyon Martin and Nene.
On the flip-side, Detroit gets an exciting offensive player in AI. Iverson has been a crowd favorite all through out his career. He will not be able to take the role of Billups but he'll provide the offensive firepower that Pistons might just be lacking to get back to the finals. With the impressive play of Rodney Stuckey and Jason Maxiell last season, the two will fill the holes vacated by key players' Billups and Mcdyess.
